Research Summary
Dr. Ji's laboratory studies the genetics of a serious human and animal pathogen, Staphylococcus aureus, which is an increasing problem due emerging resistance against traditional antibiotics. A powerful technology, antisense RNA, has been successfully used to identify genes required for bacterial growth and survival during infection. Current efforts include determining the function of additional genes critical for bacterial infection, and monitoring gene expression in infected cells. These efforts may enable future research into new types of drugs.
